Hey there, I'm Calen. I don’t believe in robotic blank-slate therapy. In sessions with me, you can expect a human who also experiences the good and the difficult things in life. You might laugh with me, have fun with me, or cry with me, and all are a part of the human experience. I’m down-to-earth, warm, light-hearted, and collaborative. Therapy is a mix of what you make it; some willingness for change, some curiosity, and mutual trust to explore difficult things together and celebrate wins together. I specialize in anxiety/depression, self-esteem, trauma, relational/familial concerns, abuse, and communication/boundaries. I’m a therapist that sees a therapist. I do the work in my personal therapy that I ask of the people who see me. I’ve felt what it’s like to learn how to be vulnerable with someone and let them see the scared parts of me. My primary goals are for you to feel believed in, supported, and empowered to make the changes you want to see in your life. Having done this for years on the client side, I work to make myself and the therapy process as transparent as possible. I do regular check-ins to make sure you’re getting what you need and that you have a chance to ask questions. There aren’t many spaces in our lives where we let our guard down safely; I hope therapy can be that for you as it has for me.

I am not currently accepting new clients - It’s a relief to show up to therapy without explaining our identities. I offer space for BIPOC, queer and trans clients. I want to help you develop a sense of confidence and self compassion by learning to observe yourself and the world around you with honesty and clarity. I'm here to support you in your healing and growth. I use Mindfulness Based CBT and EMDR to help manage anxiety, stress, fatigue, and trauma. I offer insight for people whose jobs or responsibilities ask for emotional labor, including caregivers, organizers, teachers, and healthcare workers. My goal is to help you effectively navigate challenges with ease. Change is inevitable, and one of the biggest challenges we face. I love walking with people through changes, big and small, while building lasting ways to roll with what life throws us. If you're ready to take the first step, I'll be here with you. We are living in some challenging times. If you’re struggling, that means you’re human. Know that asking for help is a strength. My therapy is collaborative in nature. I treat a range of difficulties using a variety of techniques. I work from an attachment perspective that is emotionally focused. I believe therapy involves the presence of your entire being (mind/body/spirit). Ultimately, I believe human connection is one of the most important healing tools. Thus, I create a safe therapeutic environment where growth and discovery can flourish. I bring my full self to my work – my optimism, my directness, my persistence, my humor. I am a Certified Grief Informed Professional as well as a Child Mental Health Specialist. I strongly believe that your family of origin influences the dynamics in your relationships and your patterns of behavior. My work is client-centered and strength-based with a commitment to anti-oppression, particularly within the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. I have 20+ years of experience working with individuals (children/adolescents, and adults) and families. This includes 4 years of providing mental health services. I pull heavily on my experience as a former middle school teacher and see my role as a teacher and collaborator to help create meaningful change in your life. My practice is open to new clients.

As a therapist, I greatly honor and celebrate the uniqueness of our own life stories and personalities. The interventions I offer are carefully tailored to your concerns, needs, and personal style. I integrate empirically validated approaches with a mix of traditional therapy and metaphysical healing components. I provide a therapeutic presence that is grounding, nurturing, and sincere. Together, we will combine your own self-knowledge and life expertise with my clinical expertise. I will co-journey with you to explore the depths and peaks of your experiences, and to provide support and reminders of your greatness along the way. I embrace evaluating the “light” and “dark” within you, as well as the many roles and identities you simultaneously juggle as an individual. I want to take the time to learn about your path thus far, and to collaborate with you about potential obstacles that prevent you from living a life more aligned with your own values and sense of inner and outer peace. I specialize in therapy with teens and adults, and have experience across outpatient and inpatient settings. I greatly value working with LGBTQIA(2S)+ individuals, and those of non-conforming identities. I love the work I do, and genuinely care about those I work with. I encourage you to reach out, and either way, wish you the best on your wellness quest.
